Valencia Flyers beat Ontario Avalanche, 3-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout. Jared Waldman provided Valencia Flyers with the game-winning tally when he scored 2:27 into the the first period. Adam Papayoanou picked up the assist.Blake Aguilar had a great game for Valencia Flyers, netting two goals. Valencia Flyers was led by goalie Luke Thompson, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. Thompson certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 4.45 entering the contest. Valencia Flyers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Valencia Flyers forced Ontario Avalanche goalie Daniel Cepila to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. In addition, Valencia Flyers received assists from Sam Taferner, who had one and Wil Barnett, who had two. Ontario Avalanche forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Ontario Avalanche had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. Ontario Avalanche stifled Valencia Flyers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Ontario Avalanche's offense operated below it season average. Ontario Avalanche puts an average of 4.5 pucks into the net per game.
