Colorado Eagles survives Cheyenne Stampede comeback, wins 5-3

Cheyenne Stampede tried its best to erase a three-goal deficit, but Colorado Eagles would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-3.

Colorado Eagles made the score 5-2 on a goal by Collin Abitz at 5:41 in the third period, and Cheyenne Stampede got as close as 5-3 when Branko Oktavec scored 10:53 into the third period.

Abitz had two goals and one assist to lead Colorado Eagles. Abitz scored the first of his two goals at 11:22 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Colorado Eagles. Mitch Coan assisted on the tally. Abitz's next tally made the score Colorado Eagles with 14:19 left in the third period. Kyle Robison picked up the assist.

Colorado Eagles forced Cheyenne Stampede's goaltenders to work in net, launching 34 shots and forcing 29 saves. Rasmus Hansson made 24 stops and Sam Mallory made five.

Colorado Eagles also got points from Scott Smoot, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Colorado Eagles included Jackson Wallis and Ben Gundry, who scored one goal each. More assists for Colorado Eagles came via Levi Weber, who had one and Nick Davidson, who had two.

Cheyenne Stampede stifled Colorado Eagles' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Cheyenne Stampede was led by Alexander Andersson, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Andersson scored the first of his two goals at 3:28 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Michal Marousek assisted on the tally. Andersson's next tally made the score 2-2 with 15:13 left in the second period. Cheyenne Stampede had taken the advantage when Colorado Eagles' Cory Richardson got sent off for hooking. Maans Gustavsson provided the assist. Cheyenne Stampede additionally got points from Oktavec, who also tallied one goal and one assist.

Eric Messer made 26 saves for Colorado Eagles on 29 shots. Colorado Eagles totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-5 on the power play. Cheyenne Stampede incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Cheyenne Stampede ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Collin Plitt was ejected from the game.
