Idaho Junior Steelheads wins tough contest against Missoula Maulers, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Idaho Junior Steelheads escaped with a 4-2 victory over Missoula Maulers.

Idaho Junior Steelheads gained the winning advantage on a goal by Drew Decker 3:50 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Bryan Hodges had a great game for Idaho Junior Steelheads, netting two goals. Hodges scored on the power play at 5:54 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Idaho Junior Steelheads and again while 17:19 into the third to make the score 4-2 Idaho Junior Steelheads.

Idaho Junior Steelheads' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Missoula Maulers power plays. Missoula Maulers was unable to stop Idaho Junior Steelheads from sending pucks towards the net, and Idaho Junior Steelheads eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Jesper Jensen also scored for Idaho Junior Steelheads. In addition, Idaho Junior Steelheads received assists from Victor Ivarsson, who had three and Macky Power, Hunter Lester, and Dimitris Jones, who contributed one a piece.

Missoula Maulers was led by Jordan Wheatly, who grabbed two goals. Wheatly scored the first of his two goals at 12:35 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Austin Azzinnaro assisted on the tally. Wheatly's next tally made the score 3-2 Idaho Junior Steelheads with 9:57 left in the second period. Erich Jaeger picked up the assist. More assists for Missoula Maulers came via Anders Nord and Corey Schafer, who each chipped in one.

Idaho Junior Steelheads' Sean Healy stopped 17 shots out of the 19 that he faced. Idaho Junior Steelheads totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Sebastian Gronborg rejected 32 shots on goal for Missoula Maulers. Missoula Maulers ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
