Missoula Maulers holds on for 5-4 win against xSalt Lake City MooseGlacier Ice Rink Thu, Feb 13, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Missoula Maulers survived a determined comeback attempt by xSalt Lake City Moose on the way to a 5-4 win. Missoula Maulers took a 4-1 lead during the first period, only to have xSalt Lake City Moose storm back on a Jurijs Moiseicenko goal 5:33 into the third period to pull to one goal down. Missoula Maulers got the win behind a great game by Nikita Sheptytskyy, who had one goal and two assists. Sheptytskyy scored 13:24 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Missoula Maulers. Tanner Todd provided the assist. Missoula Maulers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow xSalt Lake City Moose to score on any of its four power plays. Missoula Maulers' offense rang up 35 shots on xSalt Lake City Moose's net. Missoula Maulers also had goals scored by Joey Sundgren, Erik Hartzell, Matt Chamberlain, and Austin Azzinnaro, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Missoula Maulers were Derek Griffin, Henrik Ekestahl, Erich Jaeger, and Jordan Wheatly, who contributed one a piece. Missoula Maulers was unable to stop xSalt Lake City Moose from sending pucks towards the net, and xSalt Lake City Moose eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. xSalt Lake City Moose also got points from Pat Dwyer, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Dan Veselovsky, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. xSalt Lake City Moose also got a goal from Martin Tolkner as well. In addition, xSalt Lake City Moose received assists from Jacob McMullen, Viktors Ponatovskis, and Tommy Breitfuss, who each chipped in one. Missoula Maulers' Cody Janzen stopped 37 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Missoula Maulers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Ryan Gasparovic rejected 30 shots on goal for xSalt Lake City Moose. xSalt Lake City Moose ended with 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. xSalt Lake City Moose ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nick Luitgaarden was ejected from the game.
