Mulka stymies Wichita Jr. Thunder, xTexas wins 5-1

Ryan Mulka stood on his head and made 32 saves to lead xTexas to a 5-1 victory over Wichita Jr. Thunder.

Wichita Jr. Thunder's power play was ineffective against xTexas' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

xTexas was led by Tobias Sjolund, who tallied one goal. Sjolund scored 19:26 into the first period to make the score 2-1 xTexas. Dalton Foster assisted on the tally.

xTexas forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 26.0 minutes per game xTexas had been spending in the box. xTexas put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wichita Jr. Thunder to score on any of its six power plays. xTexas' offense rang up 55 shots on Wichita Jr. Thunder's net.

xTexas also got points from Foster, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Miguel Caron, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Sebastien Tremblay, who also had one goal and one assist. Collin Young also scored for xTexas. More assists for xTexas came via Jeremy Quinneville and Garrett Weitzel, who each chipped in one and Anatoly Uspenyev and Viktor Brask, who contributed two a piece.

Wichita Jr. Thunder stifled xTexas' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. xTexas was unable to stop Wichita Jr. Thunder from sending pucks towards the net, and Wichita Jr. Thunder eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Wichita Jr. Thunder was led by Colin Jones, who scored the team's only goal. Jones scored 10:57 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Alex Smith picked up the assist.

xTexas registered zero goals on three power play opportunities. Jake Larson recorded 50 saves for Wichita Jr. Thunder. Wichita Jr. Thunder ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major.
