Valencia Flyers downs Texas in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

Niklas Giers gave Valencia Flyers a 4-3 (OT) victory over Texas when he scored 16 seconds into the extra period.

Valencia Flyers was paced by Giers, who grabbed one goal.

Valencia Flyers stifled Texas' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Valencia Flyers kept Texas' goalie busy throughout the game, and Oliver Eklund made 34 saves on 38 shots.

Others who scored for Valencia Flyers included Wil Barnett, Blake Aguilar, and Dawson Keay, who each put in one. In addition, Valencia Flyers received assists from Austin Ehrlich, Luc Whyte, and Chase Thesman, who contributed one a piece.

Texas forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Texas surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game.

Texas was helped by Seth Ensor, who finished with one goal. Ensor scored 16:47 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Valencia Flyers. Collin Young assisted on the tally. Texas also had goals scored by Viktor Brask and Sebastien Tremblay, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Texas were Keith Bendall, Garrett Weitzel, Miguel Caron, and Tobias Sjolund, who each chipped in one.

Valencia Flyers' Mark Becica stopped 16 shots out of the 19 that he faced. Valencia Flyers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Texas registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. Texas ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cole Rose was ejected from the game.
