xOntario Avalanche squeaks by San Diego Gulls, 6-4

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, xOntario Avalanche escaped with a 6-4 victory over San Diego Gulls.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Antoine Maillard's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

With three goals and one assist between them, Lubomir Fetkovic and Maillard teamed up to power xOntario Avalanche's offense. Fetkovic had two goals and Maillard also added one goal and one assist.

xOntario Avalanche kept San Diego Gulls' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brody Cavataio made 48 saves on 54 shots.

xOntario Avalanche also got points from Nikita Salnikov, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Maillard, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for xOntario Avalanche included Alexander Roihjert and Michael Thomas, who scored one goal each. In addition, xOntario Avalanche received assists from Zechariah Roberts, who had two, Drew Crilly and Andrew Guzman, who each chipped in one, and Luke Rendino and Brett Norman, who contributed three a piece.

San Diego Gulls racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game San Diego Gulls had been spending in the box. San Diego Gulls forced xOntario Avalanche goalie Daniel Cepila to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

San Diego Gulls was helped by Eric Baldwin, who registered two goals and one assist. Baldwin scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:05 into the second period to make the score 3-2 xOntario Avalanche. San Diego Gulls earned a power play opportunity when Kevin Leuenberger was put in the box for slashing. Drew DePalma provided the assist. Baldwin's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 San Diego Gulls with 6:20 left in the second period. DePalma assisted on the tally. San Diego Gulls additionally got points from DePalma, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. San Diego Gulls also got a goal from Nick Strohmeyer as well. Other players who recorded assists for San Diego Gulls were Mark Birchall, who had two and Austin Ratkovic, Felix Kronwall, and Kalvis Ozols, who each chipped in one.

Cepila rejected 41 shots on goal for xOntario Avalanche. xOntario Avalanche totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 2-for-7 on the power play. San Diego Gulls registered two goals on five power play opportunities.
