Lake Tahoe Blue uses big second period to beat Seattle Totems, 8-3

Lake Tahoe Blue used a three-goal second period to put away Seattle Totems, 8-3.

Martin Vachal was all over the ice for Lake Tahoe Blue, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Vachal scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:06 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Lake Tahoe Blue. Lake Tahoe Blue had gotten the advantage when Seattle Totems' Doug Stultz was sent off for interference. Sebastian Forslund provided the assist. Vachal's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Lake Tahoe Blue with 9:33 left in the second period. Nick Anderson assisted on the tally.

Lake Tahoe Blue pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 23 penalty minutes.

Lake Tahoe Blue forced Seattle Totems' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 62 shots and forcing 54 saves. Cody Stein made 39 stops and Eli Alyakin made 15. Lake Tahoe Blue found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Lake Tahoe Blue has scored at the pace of 4.4 goals per game during the current campaign. Lake Tahoe Blue's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Lake Tahoe Blue additionally got points from Forslund, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Lake Tahoe Blue included Branislav Kost, who had two and Edgars Homjakovs, Mark DeVaughn, and Vincent DiMaggio, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Lake Tahoe Blue were Jonathon Robinson, who had two and David Brancik, Kyle Blondin, and Jack Norling, who each chipped in one.

Seattle Totems was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Seattle Totems surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game.

In addition, Seattle Totems received assists from Robin Bjoernstad, Frank Flight, and Duncan Long, who contributed one a piece.

Troy Turpin recorded 24 saves for Lake Tahoe Blue. Lake Tahoe Blue registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Seattle Totems registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
