Ontario Avalanche uses shootout to best San Diego Gulls, 6-5 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Ontario Avalanche defeated San Diego Gulls in a shootout 6-5 (3-2 SO).

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. San Diego Gulls got shootout goals from Keegan Evangelista and Michael Leone. Ontario Avalanche's other shootout goals were scored by Calle Hallberg and Mark Readman.

Luke Rendino was all over the ice for Ontario Avalanche, as he registered two goals in the win. Rendino's tallies came on the power play at 2:17 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and 4:05 into the third to make the score 4-3 Ontario Avalanche.

Ontario Avalanche kept San Diego Gulls' goalie busy throughout the game, and Eric Eidessen made 51 saves on 57 shots. Ontario Avalanche's penalty kill unit could not stop San Diego Gulls' power play, which converted on three of five opportunities.

Ontario Avalanche also got points from Jackson Giammona, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Lubomir Fetkovic, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Brett Norman, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Ontario Avalanche received assists from Ben Meadows, Drew Crilly, Michael Thomas, Antoine Maillard, Zechariah Roberts, and Niklas McPherson, who contributed one a piece.

San Diego Gulls' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Chris Skeates rejected 22 shots on goal for Ontario Avalanche. Ontario Avalanche totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. San Diego Gulls ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major.
