Valencia Flyers holds on for 6-5 win against Long Beach Bombers

Valencia Flyers survived a determined comeback attempt by Long Beach Bombers on the way to a 6-5 win.

Valencia Flyers took a 5-2 lead during the second period, only to have Long Beach Bombers storm back on a Filip Martinec goal 4:11 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Valencia Flyers racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with four minors and three majors for 23 minutes in penalty time. Valencia Flyers surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Valencia Flyers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Long Beach Bombers power plays. Valencia Flyers kept Long Beach Bombers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jakub Krejci made 36 saves on 42 shots. Valencia Flyers found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Valencia Flyers averages 3.9 goals per contest.

Valencia Flyers was led by Aharon Lara, who racked up three goals. Valencia Flyers additionally got points from Zach Paxman, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Jakob Kranabetter, who also had one goal and one assist. Valencia Flyers' Mark Becica stopped 26 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Long Beach Bombers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nicholas Short was ejected from the game.
