Fresno Monsters penalty kill dominates in 5-0 defeat of Seattle Totems

Seattle Totems failed to take advantage of its power play opportunities and Fresno Monsters shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-0.

Fresno Monsters was led by Thomas Peach, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Peach scored short handed 6:25 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Fresno Monsters. A kneeing call on Gunnar Dircks put Fresno Monsters on the penalty kill. Mike Fabie picked up the assist.

Fresno Monsters was often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and six majors for 100 minutes in penalty time. Fresno Monsters surpassed its season average of 29.0 penalty minutes per game. Fresno Monsters made Seattle Totems' goaltenders to work between the pipes, getting 45 shots and forcing 40 saves. Bryce Fink made 34 stops and Eli Alyakin made six. Fresno Monsters stifled Seattle Totems' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Fresno Monsters' defense was surprisingly good. Fresno Monsters allows 2.8 goals per game.

Fresno Monsters also got points from Filip Winkler, who also had one goal and one assist, Alex Schwartz, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Evan Ingram, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Fresno Monsters also got a goal from Kyle Jelenski as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fresno Monsters were Cory Sikich and Austin Browning, who each chipped in one.

The Seattle Totems penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and four majors for 66 minutes in penalty time. Seattle Totems had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. Seattle Totems did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. Seattle Totems averages 2.8 goals per game. Fresno Monsters' defense shut down Seattle Totems' forwards for much of the game, and Seattle Totems got off only eight shots during the contest. Seattle Totems' power play was punchless, and failed to score a single goal despite having nine power play opportunities.

Austin Piquette made eight saves for Fresno Monsters on eight shots. Fresno Monsters registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Team's Peach, Dircks, and Nico Wilton were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. For Seattle Totems, Piers LaFrance was ejected from the game.
