Idaho Junior Steelheads rolls over Missoula Maulers, 6-1WSHL Office Fri, Dec 13, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Idaho Junior Steelheads had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-1 win over Missoula Maulers. Idaho Junior Steelheads' Sean Healy was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 28 saves and let only one puck past him. Healy certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.56 entering the contest. Idaho Junior Steelheads pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 51 penalty minutes. Idaho Junior Steelheads forced Missoula Maulers goalie Cody Janzen to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots. Idaho Junior Steelheads was led by Jan Blasko, who registered one goal and one assist. Blasko scored 17:39 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Idaho Junior Steelheads. Macky Power assisted on the tally. Idaho Junior Steelheads also got points from Bryan Hodges, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Idaho Junior Steelheads included Randy Patzner, who had two and Hunter Lester and Zach Walden, who each put in one. In addition, Idaho Junior Steelheads received assists from Dak Dice, who had two, Philip Wong, who had three, and Ian Patrican and Jesper Jensen, who contributed one a piece. Missoula Maulers forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. Missoula Maulers surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. Missoula Maulers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Idaho Junior Steelheads to score on any of its four power plays. Missoula Maulers was led by Corey Schafer, who scored the team's only goal. Schafer scored on the power play 2:32 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Idaho Junior Steelheads. A roughing penalty on Blasko had put Missoula Maulers on the power play. Austin Azzinnaro picked up the assist. Janzen rejected 43 shots on goal for Missoula Maulers. Missoula Maulers registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
