Ogden Mustangs beats Missoula Maulers 5-4 after comeback scare

Ogden Mustangs survived a determined comeback attempt by Missoula Maulers on the way to a 5-4 win.

Ogden Mustangs made the score 5-2 on a goal by Jimmy Peplinski at 7:50 in the third period, and Missoula Maulers got as close as 5-4 when Austin Azzinnaro scored 11:31 into the third period.

Ogden Mustangs got the win thanks to a great game by Jon Mencer, who had two goals and one assist. Mencer scored the first of his two goals at 12:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ogden Mustangs. Cam Russell picked up the assist. Mencer's next tally made the score 2-1 Ogden Mustangs with 4:09 left in the first period. George Babos assisted on the tally.

Ogden Mustangs kept Missoula Maulers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Cody Janzen made 40 saves on 45 shots. Ogden Mustangs struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Missoula Maulers to score four power play goals on seven chances.

Ogden Mustangs also got points from Brody Decker, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Ogden Mustangs also got a goal from Simon Teodorsson as well. In addition, Ogden Mustangs received assists from Charlie Reed, who had two and Anthony Catalina, Justin Schebel, and Martin Hallin, who contributed one a piece.

Ogden Mustangs was unable to stop Missoula Maulers from sending pucks towards the net, and Missoula Maulers eventually piled up 53 shots on goal. The defensemen of Missoula Maulers were also effective in Ogden Mustangs' zone, and came away with two goals.

Missoula Maulers was led by Joey Sundgren, who had one goal and two assists. Sundgren scored on the power play 13:05 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A roughing penalty on Decker had put Missoula Maulers on the power play. Erich Jaeger picked up the assist. Missoula Maulers also had goals scored by Derek Griffin and Anders Nord, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Missoula Maulers were Josh Chamberlain, who had one and Corey Schafer, who had two.

Connor Webb rejected 49 shots on goal for Ogden Mustangs. Ogden Mustangs totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. Missoula Maulers incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
