Idaho Junior Steelheads survives penalties, beats Salt Lake City Moose, 7-2

Salt Lake City Moose failed to take advantage of its power play opportunities and Idaho Junior Steelheads shook off a number of penalties to win, 7-2.

Idaho Junior Steelheads was paced by Dak Dice, who finished with one goal and one assist. Dice scored on the power play 6:28 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Idaho Junior Steelheads. A hooking penalty on Jurijs Moiseicenko had put Idaho Junior Steelheads on the power play. Philip Wong provided the assist.

Idaho Junior Steelheads' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on nine Salt Lake City Moose power plays. Idaho Junior Steelheads got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Idaho Junior Steelheads also got points from Oskar Af Bjur, who also registered one goal and one assist and Luc Gensler, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Idaho Junior Steelheads included August Von Ungern-Sternberg, Parker Lewis, Macky Power, and Zach Walden, who each put in one. In addition, Idaho Junior Steelheads received assists from Jan Blasko, who had three, Victor Ivarsson, Jesper Jensen, and Hunter Lester, who each chipped in one, and Anton Virtanen and Victor Carlsson, who contributed two a piece.

Salt Lake City Moose could not produce up to it normal offensive output. Salt Lake City Moose averages 5.5 goals per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Salt Lake City Moose was led by David Barnes, who racked up one goal and one assist. Barnes scored 15:50 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Dan Veselovsky assisted on the tally. Salt Lake City Moose also got a goal from Alex Pommerville as well. More assists for Salt Lake City Moose came via Pat Dwyer and Tyler Keturi, who each chipped in one.

Sean Healy recorded 24 saves for Idaho Junior Steelheads. Idaho Junior Steelheads incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Salt Lake City Moose's starting goalie, Ryan Gasparovic, made nine saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Brad Robertson, who stopped 14 shots. Salt Lake City Moose incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
