Sam Mallory had a standout game with 35 saves, and Cheyenne Stampede beat Boulder Bison 4-1. Cheyenne Stampede was sparked by Filip Oravec, who grabbed one goal. Oravec scored on the power play 4:20 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Cheyenne Stampede. A cross checking penalty on Chad Lopez had put Cheyenne Stampede on the power play. Tyler Elkins provided the assist. Cheyenne Stampede forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. Cheyenne Stampede had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. Cheyenne Stampede put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Boulder Bison to score on any of its four power plays.
