Cooper nets hat trick, leads Phoenix Knights to 10-0 win over New Mexico Renegades

Braden Cooper lifted Phoenix Knights to a 10-0 victory with a hat trick against New Mexico Renegades.

Cooper got on the scoresheet 13 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 23 seconds into the second and at 19:24 into the third.

Phoenix Knights led 4-0 after the opening frame the first period and maintained a healthy margin after.

Troy Anderson spearheaded the defensive effort for Phoenix Knights, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 26 saves for the shutout. Anderson managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.1 prior to the game.

Phoenix Knights forced New Mexico Renegades' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 61 shots and forcing 51 saves. John Groth made 22 stops and Ryan Sandrin made 29. Phoenix Knights put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow New Mexico Renegades to score on any of its five power plays. Phoenix Knights' defensive play was more effective than usual against New Mexico Renegades. Phoenix Knights averages 2.2 goals allowed per game. Phoenix Knights found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Phoenix Knights averages 5.5 goals per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Phoenix Knights additionally got points from Colin Bresnehan, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Ryan McNeely, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Jordan Cullum, who also racked up one goal and three assists, and Kelby Minshull, who also finished with one goal and three assists. Others who scored for Phoenix Knights included Shane Fitzpatrick, Trent Boschman, and Nick Kujawa, who each put in one. More assists for Phoenix Knights came via Robert Smith and Eric Calcavecchia, who contributed one a piece and Max Mahood, Brennan Johnsson, David Hornak, and Robert Crisci, who each chipped in two.

Phoenix Knights incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. New Mexico Renegades incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
