New Mexico Renegades shrugs off penalties, upends Tulsa Jr. Oilers, 6-2

New Mexico Renegades, which found itself down a man often, weathered Tulsa Jr. Oilers' power play opportunities and emerged with a 6-2 victory.

New Mexico Renegades was sparked by Nikita Pervyakov, who had one goal and one assist. Pervyakov scored 5:09 into the third period to make the score 3-2 New Mexico Renegades. Damond Brokke picked up the assist.

In the losing effort, Tulsa Jr. Oilers was paced by Derek Smith, who registered two goals. Smith scored the first of his two goals at 14:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Tulsa Jr. Oilers. Devan Beck provided the assist. Smith's next tally made the score 2-0 Tulsa Jr. Oilers with 3:31 left in the first period. Elliott Langford assisted on the tally.

New Mexico Renegades forced Tulsa Jr. Oilers' netminders to work without much rest, firing 51 shots and forcing 45 saves. Colter Pritchard made 15 stops and Eric Messer made 30. New Mexico Renegades' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Tulsa Jr. Oilers power plays. New Mexico Renegades' goal total was higher than its season average. New Mexico Renegades has scored at the pace of 1.1 goal per game during the current campaign. New Mexico Renegades got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

New Mexico Renegades also got points from Brokke, who also racked up one goal and two assists. New Mexico Renegades also got a goal from Martelli Mike as well. More assists for New Mexico Renegades came via Max Legere, A.J. Mussfeldt, and Cameron Mikkelsen, who each chipped in one.

Tulsa Jr. Oilers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in 12 chances. Tulsa Jr. Oilers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 44 minutes in penalties during the game.

In addition, Tulsa Jr. Oilers received assists from Trevor Ruiz, who had one.

John Groth made 24 saves for New Mexico Renegades on 26 shots. New Mexico Renegades incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
