Meyer's big game bests Southern Oregon Spartans in 6-2 Salt Lake City Moose win

Brett Meyer was all over the ice for Salt Lake City Moose, as he tallied one goal and two assists in Salt Lake City Moose's 6-2 win over Southern Oregon Spartans.

Meyer scored on the power play 18:58 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Salt Lake City Moose. Salt Lake City Moose earned a power play opportunity when Trevor Hillman was put in the box for head contact. David Barnes provided the assist. Meyer dished an assist on Barnes' goal that made the score 2-0 Salt Lake City Moose at 14:20 into the first period. He added another helper on Barnes' goal that made the score 6-0 Salt Lake City Moose at 1:33 into the third period.

Salt Lake City Moose made Southern Oregon Spartans' goaltenders to work in net, ripping 35 shots and forcing 29 saves. Ian Dvorak made 15 stops and Jiri Ponikelsky made 14. Salt Lake City Moose put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Southern Oregon Spartans to score on any of its five power plays. The defensemen of Salt Lake City Moose were also effective in Southern Oregon Spartans' zone, and came away with two goals.

Salt Lake City Moose additionally got points from Barnes, who also racked up two goals and one assist and Hank Parra, who also had one goal and one assist. Martin Tolkner also scored for Salt Lake City Moose. Other players who recorded assists for Salt Lake City Moose were Pat Dwyer, Viktors Ponatovskis, Matthew Morse, Cole Corson, and Daniel Coley, who each chipped in one.

The Southern Oregon Spartans penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game Southern Oregon Spartans had been spending in the box. Southern Oregon Spartans' offense rang up 32 shots on Salt Lake City Moose's net.
