San Diego Gulls downs Fresno Monsters in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

San Diego Gulls pulled out a 6-5 (OT) overtime victory over Fresno Monsters on a clutch goal by Kalvis Ozols.

San Diego Gulls nearly gave up a three-score lead. San Diego Gulls made the score 4-1 on a power play goal by Drew DePalma at 6:51 in the second period. Fresno Monsters pulled to within 4-3 on a power play goal by Michael Freeman at 2:37 in the third period.

Ozols was all over the ice for San Diego Gulls, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Ozols scored the first of his two goals at 17:01 into the first period to make the score 2-0 San Diego Gulls. Drake Deberry picked up the assist. Ozols' next tally made the score 6-5 San Diego Gulls with 19:32 left in. DePalma assisted on the tally.

San Diego Gulls found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. San Diego Gulls averages 3.3 goals per game. San Diego Gulls cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring two goals on three chances. San Diego Gulls got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

San Diego Gulls additionally got points from Michael Leone, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and DePalma, who also registered one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. San Diego Gulls also got a goal from Eric Baldwin as well. Other players who recorded assists for San Diego Gulls were Austin Ratkovic and Mark Birchall, who contributed one a piece.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Fresno Monsters had taken the advantage when San Diego Gulls' Will Parker got sent off for hooking. Fitzgerald assisted on the tally. Kyle Jelenski also scored for Fresno Monsters. In addition, Fresno Monsters received assists from Conner Osborne, who had one and Anthony Pena, who had two.

Brody Cavataio made 25 saves for San Diego Gulls on 30 shots. San Diego Gulls incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Austin Piquette made six saves before being replaced by Jerry Kaukinen, who took the otl and made 13 saves. Fresno Monsters incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
