Chatham hangs on, beats St. Thomas 2-0

The Chatham Maroons beat the St. Thomas Stars, 2-0, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

Chatham took over the lead for good with a goal by James McEwen (APM) at 4:37 in the first period. Trevor Richardson provided the assist.

The Maroons were boosted by Jacob Keogh, who turned in a shutout with 27 saves. Keogh managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.56 prior to the game.

Chatham was led by McEwen (APM), who had one goal.

The Maroons were held below their usual level of production. Chatham puts an average of 4.6 pucks into the net per game. St. Thomas was unable to stop the Maroons from sending pucks towards the net, and Chatham eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Ian Faubert also scored for Chatham. In addition, Chatham received assists from John Montgomery, Connor Doran, and Mark Fratarcangelli, who each chipped in one.

The Stars excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. St. Thomas could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Stars average 3.1 goals per game.

The Maroons ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Chatham ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brayden Hopkins was ejected from the game. Nick Dampier rejected 35 shots on goal for St. Thomas. The Stars totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. For St. Thomas, Alex Morgan was ejected from the game.
