Quad City rides Heemskerk to victory over Allen, 2-1Allen Event Center Wed, Mar 26, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Thomas Heemskerk stood on his head and made 34 saves to lead the Quad City Mallards to a 2-1 victory over the Allen Americans. Quad City pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 12 penalty minutes. The Mallards were sparked by Michael Monfredo, who racked up one goal. Monfredo scored on the power play 16:55 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Quad City. Quad City had gained a power play chance when Daniel Tetrault was whistled for hooking. Gabriel Levesque provided the assist. The Mallards relied heavily on their defensemen to assist their forwards, and the blueliners responded by scoring two goals on 11 shots. Quad City also got points from Matt Duffy, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Quad City were Vladimir Nikiforov and Jeff Lee, who each chipped in one. Allen's offense operated below its season average. The Americans average 3.8 goals per game. Allen's offense rang up 35 shots on Quad City's net. The Americans were led by Jamie Schaafsma, who scored the team's only goal. Schaafsma scored on the power play 11:52 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Allen had gotten the advantage when the Mallards' Tyler Yaworski was sent off for holding. Jonathan Lessard picked up the assist. Quad City registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Willie Yanakeff rejected 22 shots on goal for the Americans. Allen incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
