Asuchak's big game bests Rapid City in 7-5 Allen win

Behind a great game by Spencer Asuchak, who had two goals and three assists, the Allen Americans defeated Rapid City, 7-5.

Asuchak's tallies came on the power play at 4:38 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Allen and 19:42 into the third to make the score 7-6 Allen.

Rapid City was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as Allen was able to score four times while on the power play.

The Americans' offense was clicking better than usual and put 30 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.2 shots per game they average. Allen's goal total was higher than its season average. The Americans average 3.7 goals per game. Allen struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 24 penalty minutes for six opposing power plays.

Allen additionally got points from Brian McMillin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Bruce Graham, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Allen also had goals scored by Daniel Tetrault, Jamie Schaafsma, and Darryl Bootland, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Allen were Tyler Ludwig, who had two and Greger Hanson, Anthony Maiani, Alex Lavoie, Bryan Pitton, and Ross Rouleau, who contributed one each.

Rapid City could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game. Rapid City's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. By firing 32 shots on goal, Rapid City exceeded the 26.7 shots it averages per game this year.

Rapid City was helped by Scott Brannon, who registered two goals. Brannon scored the first of his two goals at 12:43 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Allen. Tristin Llewellyn assisted on the tally. Brannon's next tally made the score 6-5 Rapid City with 4:29 left in the third period. Rapid City played down a man on Kyle Stroh's too many men. Justin Faryna picked up the assist. Rapid City also got points from Jesse Schultz, who also finished with one goal and three assists and Sean Erickson, who also tallied two goals and one assist. Winston Day Chief also scored for Rapid City. More assists for Rapid City came via Jared Brown, Brett Kostolansky, and Ryan Palmer, who each chipped in one.

Bryan Pitton made 27 saves for the Americans on 32 shots. Wayne Savage rejected 23 shots on goal for Rapid City.
