Denver stifles Brampton's comeback, gains 4-2 victory

The Denver Cutthroats, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Brampton Beast and clinched a 4-2 victory.

Denver led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Cutthroats' Vincent Arseneau scored on the power play at 10:52 in the first period to put Denver up 3-0.

Jean-Philipp Chabot had two goals to lead the Cutthroats to victory. Chabot's tallies came on the power play at 5:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Denver and on the power play 9:03 into the first to make the score 2-0 Denver.

Denver's penalty kill excelled, as the Cutthroats gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Denver stifled Brampton's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 34 shots that the Cutthroats put on net surpassed Denver's average of 28.3 shots per game this season.

AJ Gale also scored for Denver. More assists for Denver came via Lee Moffie, who had one, Steve Kaunisto, who had three, and Troy Schwab and Garett Bembridge, who each chipped in two.

The Beast relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Matt Caruana, Steve Makway and Jason Pitton took 17 of the team's 33 shots. Brampton could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

In addition, Brampton received assists from Josh McQuade and Jamie VanderVeeken, who contributed one each.

The Cutthroats' John Griggs stopped 31 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Denver incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Kristofer Westblom made 30 saves for the Beast on 34 shots.
