Huge game by Giosa boosts Rapid City over Tulsa, 5-2

Behind a great game by Eric Giosa, who had one goal and two assists, Rapid City defeated the Tulsa Oilers, 5-2.

Giosa got on the board by slotting home a goal 5:00 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Rapid City. Brett Kostolansky assisted on the tally. Giosa dished an assist on Jesse Schultz's goal that made the score 1-0 Rapid City at 1:30 into the second period. He added another helper on Konrad Reeder's goal that made the score 5-2 Rapid City at 13:09 into the third period.

Rapid City forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and two majors for 46 minutes in penalty time. Rapid City surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Rapid City relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Giosa, Reeder and Jared Brown took 14 of the team's 26 shots.

Rapid City additionally got points from Schultz, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Sean Erickson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Scott Brannon also scored for Rapid City. In addition, Rapid City received assists from Bobby Preece, Ryan Palmer, and Tristin Llewellyn, who contributed one a piece.

The Tulsa penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and two majors for 26 minutes in penalty time. The Oilers had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Tulsa was helped by Drew Fisher, who registered one goal. Fisher scored on the power play 8:21 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Rapid City. The Oilers had gained a power play chance when Preece was whistled for roughing. Adam Pleskach picked up the assist. Tulsa also got a goal from Ryan Menei as well. More assists for Tulsa came via Ben Gordon, who had one and Michel Beausoleil, who had two.

Rapid City's Tim Boron stopped 22 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Rapid City registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Shane Madolora made 21 saves for Tulsa on 26 shots. The Oilers registered two goals on six power play opportunities.
