Quad City holds on for 5-3 win against Arizona

The Arizona Sundogs tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Quad City Mallards held on for a 5-3 victory.

A goal by Jeff Lee put Quad City up 5-2 in the third period, but Arizona pulled to within two on Bryan Cameron's tally 18:58 into the third period.

Thomas Frazee had two goals and one assist to lead the Mallards. Frazee scored the first of his two goals at 4:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Quad City. Lee picked up the assist. Frazee's next tally made the score 2-0 Quad City with 2:10 left in the first period. Quad City was on a disadvantage when Nick Grasso went off the ice for too many men. Lee provided the assist.

The Mallards' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Arizona power plays. Quad City's defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 14 shots between them. The 33 shots that the Mallards put on net surpassed Quad City's average of 27.4 shots per game this season.

Quad City additionally got points from Lee, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Quad City included Gergo Nagy and Justin Fox, who scored one goal each. In addition, Quad City received assists from Tyler Yaworski, Nicholas Rioux, Darren McMillan, Vladimir Nikiforov, Mike Stinziani, and Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel, who each chipped in one.

The Sundogs' offense was helped by the efforts of their defensemen, who managed to put 15 shots on net during the game. By firing 32 shots on goal, Arizona exceeded the 21.6 shots it averages per game this year.

The Sundogs were helped by Alex Velischek, who grabbed one goal. Velischek scored 4:54 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Quad City. Riley Emmerson picked up the assist. Arizona also got a goal from Shawn Limpright as well. More assists for Arizona came via Michael Trebish, who had two and Johan Ryd, Kevin Baker, and Brandon Coccimiglio, who contributed one a piece.

Ty Rimmer rejected 29 shots on goal for the Mallards. Quad City totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Arizona's Andrew Engelage stopped 28 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Sundogs ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
