Brampton holds on for 6-5 win against Quad Cityi-wireless Center Sat, Mar 01, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Brampton Beast survived a determined comeback attempt by the Quad City Mallards on the way to a 6-5 win. A goal by Steve Makway put Brampton up 5-3 in the second period, but Quad City pulled to within one on Vladimir Nikiforov's tally 4:24 into the third period. Scott Howes had a great game for the Beast, netting two goals. Howes scored at 1:15 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Quad City and again while 19:07 into the third to make the score 6-5 Brampton. Brampton outdid its season average for goals scored. The Beast have scored at the pace of 3.2 goals per game during the current campaign. The defense for Brampton played an important role offensively, racking up 15 shots on goal. The 37 shots that the Beast put on net surpassed Brampton's average of 25.9 shots per game this season. Brampton additionally got points from Calin Wild, who also had two goals and one assist. Brampton also got a goal from Andrew Fournier as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Thomas Stajan, who had two and Andrew Darrigo, Jason Pitton, and Matt Caruana, who contributed one each. The Mallards stifled the Beast's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. By firing 33 shots on goal, Quad City exceeded the 26.5 shots it averages per game this year. The Mallards were helped by Thomas Frazee, who registered two goals. Frazee scored the first of his two goals at 12:27 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Quad City. Nick Grasso provided the assist. Frazee's next tally made the score 4-3 Brampton with 6:59 left in the second period. Jeff Lee assisted on the tally. Quad City also got points from Lee, who also finished with one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Justin Fox also scored for Quad City. In addition, Quad City received assists from Tyler Yaworski, who had two and Nicholas Rioux and Chris Greene, who each chipped in one. Grant Rollheiser recorded 28 saves for Brampton. The Beast incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Quad City took out Ty Rimmer after he had made 18 saves and installed Thomas Heemskerk in goal, where he finished with 13 saves and the loss. The Mallards incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
