GAME RECAP

Tulsa beats Wichita 3-0 as Madolora gains shutout

Intrust Bank Arena    Fri, Feb 28, 2014

Shane Madolora was superb between the pipes for the Tulsa Oilers, as he did not allow a goal in a 3-0 victory over the Wichita Thunder.

Tulsa was sparked by Ryan Menei, who tallied one goal and one assist. Menei scored 16:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Tulsa.

The Oilers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wichita to score on any of its five power plays. By firing 35 shots on goal, Tulsa exceeded the 25.8 shots it averages per game this year.

Others who scored for Tulsa included Ben Gordon and Michel Beausoleil, who each put in one. In addition, Tulsa received assists from Nathan Lutz, Adam Pleskach, and Kyle Bochek, who contributed one a piece.

The Thunder's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Tulsa power plays. Wichita was held below its usual level of production. The Thunder average 2.9 goals per game. Wichita relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Jesse Dudas, Ian Lowe and Mike Wilson took 13 of the team's 25 shots.

The Oilers' Madolora stopped 25 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Tulsa incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Taylor Nelson made 32 saves for the Thunder on 34 shots. Wichita incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
