Missouri holds on for 4-3 win against St. Charles

The St. Charles Chill tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Missouri Mavericks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

Missouri made the score 3-1 on a goal by Eric Castonguay at 10:06 in the second period, and St. Charles got as close as 3-2 when Nick Schneider scored 2:29 into the third period.

Castonguay was all over the ice for the Mavericks, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win.

Missouri put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Chill to score on any of their three power plays. By firing 32 shots on goal, the Mavericks exceeded the 26.7 shots they average per game this year.

Missouri additionally got points from Andrew Courtney, who also tallied one goal and three assists and Sebastien Thinel, who also registered one goal and two assists. In addition, Missouri received assists from Anders Franzon, who had one.

St. Charles' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Missouri power plays. The Chill's offense was clicking better than usual and put 25 shots on goal during the game, better than the 21.4 shots per game they average.

St. Charles was helped by Martin Hlinka, who racked up one goal. Hlinka scored 4:02 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Jordan Fox assisted on the tally. Nicklas Lindberg also scored for St. Charles. More assists for St. Charles came via Zack Josepher and John Snowden, who each chipped in one.

Shane Owen rejected 22 shots on goal for Missouri. The Mavericks ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and three majors. Linus Lundin made 28 saves for the Chill on 32 shots. St. Charles ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and three majors.
