Wichita uses shootout to best Brampton, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Ian Lowe netted the deciding goal for the Wichita Thunder in the shootout as Thunder prevailed over the Brampton Beast, 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed 12 turns to complete the shootout. Brampton's shootout goal was scored by Andrew Fournier. Wichita also got a shootout goal from Matt Summers.

The Thunder's offense was clicking better than usual and put 38 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.2 shots per game they average.

Wichita was helped by Erick Lizon, who grabbed one goal. Lizon scored 10:50 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Jason Wilson assisted on the tally. Wichita also had goals scored by Jesse Dudas and RG Flath, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Wichita were Mike Wilson, Nick McParland, Matt Robinson, Summers, and Tomas Klempa, who each chipped in one.

The 30 shots that the Beast put on net surpassed Brampton's average of 25.5 shots per game this season.

The Beast were helped by Scott Howes, who registered one goal. Howes scored on the power play 9:17 into the third period to make the score 3-3. A high sticking penalty on Garrett Gruenke had put Brampton on the power play. Steve Makway picked up the assist. Others who scored for Brampton included Ahmed Mahfouz and Josh McQuade, who scored one goal each. In addition, Brampton received assists from Calin Wild, who had two and Matt Suderman, Michael MacIsaac, and Matt Caruana, who contributed one a piece.

David Brown recorded 27 saves for the Thunder. Wichita incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Kristofer Westblom made 34 saves for the Beast on 37 shots. Brampton incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
