Quad City wins tough contest against St. Charles, 6-4The Family Arena Sun, Feb 09, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Quad City Mallards escaped with a 6-4 victory over the St. Charles Chill. Quad City gained the winning advantage on a goal by Michael Monfredo 19:30 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. The Mallards got the win thanks to a great game by Jeff Lee, who had one goal and three assists. Lee scored 5:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Quad City. Nick Grasso picked up the assist. Quad City stifled St. Charles' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Mallards' offense rang up 31 shots on the Chill's net. Quad City surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Mallards have scored at the pace of 3.4 goals per game during the current campaign. Quad City relied heavily on its defensemen to assist its forwards, and the blueliners responded by scoring three goals on 13 shots. Quad City also got points from Thomas Frazee, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Grasso, who also registered one goal and two assists. Quad City also had goals scored by Justin Fox and Matt Duffy, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Quad City were Mike Hellyer, who had two and Vladimir Nikiforov, Gergo Nagy, and Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel, who each chipped in one. St. Charles was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 51 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game the Chill had been spending in the box. St. Charles put 20 shots on net during the contest, more than the 15.7 it averages per game. The Chill were led by Martin Hlinka, who had one goal and one assist. Hlinka scored short handed 9:29 into the second period to make the score 2-2. St. Charles found itself down a man on Nick Schneider's boarding. Others who scored for St. Charles included Cameron Cooper, Ryan Berard, and Travis Ouellette, who each put in one. In addition, St. Charles received assists from Michael MacIntyre and John Snowden, who contributed one a piece. Ty Rimmer recorded 16 saves for the Mallards. Quad City incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Linus Lundin made 25 saves for the Chill on 30 shots. St. Charles registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. The Chill ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Sean Muncy was ejected from the game.
