Arizona survives Brampton comeback, wins 3-2

Tims Toyota Center    Fri, Feb 07, 2014

The Brampton Beast tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Arizona Sundogs held on for a 3-2 victory.

Arizona took a 3-1 lead during the third period, only to have Brampton storm back on a Brett Smith goal 19:01 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Sundogs were sparked by Bryan Cameron, who registered one goal. Cameron scored 9:18 into the third period to make the score Arizona. Alex Velischek provided the assist.

Arizona excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Sundogs could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. By firing 34 shots on goal, Arizona exceeded the 20.8 shots it averages per game this year.

Arizona also had goals scored by Ian Schultz and Sebastien Geoffrion, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Arizona were Kevin Baker, Justin Pender, and David Rutherford, who contributed one a piece.

The Beast were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and two majors for 44 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Brampton had been spending in the box.

Brampton also got a goal from Andrew Fournier as well. In addition, Brampton received assists from Steve Makway, Tylor Michel, and Jamie VanderVeeken, who each chipped in one.

The Sundogs' Andrew Engelage stopped 22 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Arizona registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Kristofer Westblom rejected 31 shots on goal for the Beast. Brampton ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Scotty Howes was ejected from the game.
