Rapid City tried to dig itself out of a three-goal hole, but the Arizona Sundogs held on for a 4-2 victory. A goal by Jason Morgan put Arizona up 4-1 in the third period, but Rapid City pulled to within two on Kyle Stroh's tally 16:07 into the third period. The Sundogs pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 27 penalty minutes. By firing 31 shots on goal, Arizona exceeded the 23.1 shots it averages per game this year. The Sundogs were led by Alex Tuckerman, who finished with one goal and one assist. Tuckerman scored short handed 3:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Arizona. A slashing call on Garrett Clarke put Arizona on the penalty kill. Sebastian Geoffrion assisted on the tally. Arizona also got points from Morgan, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Arizona also had goals scored by Riley Emmerson and Kevin Baker, who each put in one. More assists for Arizona came via Matt McCready, who had two and Michael Couch and Paul McIlveen, who each chipped in one. Rapid City was often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game Rapid City had been spending in the box. Rapid City relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Winston Day Chief, Sean Erickson and Konrad Reeder took 15 of the team's 29 shots. Team could not crack the Sundogs' penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage. In addition, Rapid City received assists from Riley Weselowski, Jesse Schultz, and Matthew Larke, who contributed one a piece. Arizona's Andrew Engelage stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Sundogs registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Tim Boron rejected 27 shots on goal for Rapid City.
