In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Wichita Thunder escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Allen Americans. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Erick Lizon's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Matt Robinson had two goals to lead Wichita to victory. Robinson scored on the power play at 16:38 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wichita and again while 17:32 into the third to make the score 4-2 Wichita. The the Thunder penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. Wichita surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. The Thunder put 33 shots on net during the contest, more than the 25.6 they average per game. Wichita also got points from Mike Wilson, who also had one goal and two assists. More assists for Wichita came via Nick McParland, Ian Lowe, Matt Summers, Tomas Klempa, Andrew Martens, and Jon Booras, who contributed one a piece. Allen racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game the Americans had been spending in the box. Allen relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Daniel Tetrault, Jonathan Lessard and Spencer Asuchak took 18 of the team's 34 shots. The Americans were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on nine chances. Allen additionally got points from Tetrault, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Allen were Kale Kerbashian, Jamie Schaafsma, and Darryl Bootland, who each chipped in one. Taylor Nelson recorded 32 saves for Wichita. The Thunder registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Wichita ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jon Madden was ejected from the game. Mark Guggenberger made 29 saves for Allen on 33 shots. For the Americans, Dallas Ehrhardt was ejected from the game.
