Quad City rides Rimmer to victory over Brampton, 4-1Powerade Centre Thu, Jan 23, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Quad City Mallards relied on the sparkling performance of Ty Rimmer in net to grab a 4-1 win against the Brampton Beast. Quad City was led by Matt Boyd, who racked up one goal. Boyd scored 4:54 into the third period to make the score 2-0 Quad City. Gergo Nagy provided the assist. The Mallards put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Brampton to score on any of its four power plays. Quad City's defensemen bolstered the Mallards' offensive attack, as they bombarded Kristofer Westblom with 18 shots. Quad City put 39 shots on net during the contest, more than the 29.1 it averages per game. Quad City also got points from Nagy, who also tallied two goals and one assist. Jeff Lee also scored for Quad City. More assists for Quad City came via Vladimir Nikiforov, Thomas Frazee, and Mike Stinziani, who each chipped in one. The Beast were held below their usual level of production. Brampton puts an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. With 35 shots on target during the contest, the Beast exceeded the 27.5 shots they average per game this year. Brampton was led by Rob Collins, who scored the team's only goal. Collins scored 17:51 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Quad City. Steve Makway assisted on the tally. Ty Rimmer made 34 saves for the Mallards on 35 shots. Quad City incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Westblom rejected 35 shots on goal for the Beast. Brampton incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
