RG Flath netted the deciding goal for the Wichita Thunder in the shootout as Thunder prevailed over the Tulsa Oilers, 3-2 (1-0 SO). The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout.Wichita overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Thunder trailed 2-1 after a goal by Tulsa's Kyle Bochek at 9:23 in the third period. Wichita tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Matt Robinson at 19:06 in the third period. The Thunder stifled the Oilers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 31 shots that Wichita put on net surpassed the Thunder's average of 26.4 shots per game this season. Mike Wilson also scored for Wichita. In addition, Wichita received assists from Ian Lowe, Jared Walker, and Jon Booras, who each chipped in one. Tulsa forced Wichita goalie David Brown to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. The Oilers were helped by Michel Beausoleil, who racked up one goal. Beausoleil scored 6:24 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Bochek picked up the assist. Tulsa also got points from Bochek, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Tulsa were Ryan Menei, who had one and Todd Robinson, who had two. Brown recorded 33 saves for the Thunder. Wichita incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Tulsa's Shane Madolora stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Oilers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
