Wichita blows out Quad City, 7-1Intrust Bank Arena Fri, Jan 17, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wichita Thunder were firing on all cylinders against the Quad City Mallards, and when the final buzzer sounded Thunder emerged with a 7-1 win. Jesse Dudas was all over the ice for Wichita, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Dudas scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:31 into the second period to make the score 4-0 Wichita. The Thunder had taken the advantage when Quad City's Michael Monfredo got sent off for cross checking. Andrew Martens provided the assist. Dudas' next tally on the power play made the score 6-1 Wichita with 10:00 left in the third period. Wichita had gained a power play chance when Gabriel Levesque was whistled for hooking. Martens picked up the assist. The the Thunder penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Wichita surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. The Thunder's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Quad City power plays. Wichita found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Thunder have scored at the pace of 3.1 goals per game during the current campaign. Wichita relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Dudas, RG Flath and Jon Booras took 21 of the team's 37 shots. The Thunder's defensemen played well offensively, producing three goals while racking up 15 shots. Wichita also got points from Booras, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Others who scored for Wichita included Mike Wilson and Matt Summers, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Wichita were Karl Linden and Jared Walker, who contributed one a piece and Ian Lowe, Matt Robinson, and Tomas Klempa, who each chipped in two. The Mallards did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Quad City puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. The Mallards put 28 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.3 they average per game. Wichita's David Brown stopped 27 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Thunder registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Quad City's starting goalie, Ty Rimmer, made 22 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Nick Niedert, who stopped eight shots. The Mallards ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major.
