Day Chief's goals lift Rapid City to 4-1 victory over Denver

Winston Day Chief was all over the ice for Rapid City, as he tallied two goals in Rapid City's 4-1 win over the Denver Cutthroats.

Day Chief's tallies came at 16:09 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Rapid City and 3:50 into the second to make the score 3-1 Rapid City.

Rapid City was led by goalie Keaton Hartigan, who finished with 27 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Hartigan will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.5.

The Rapid City penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled five minors and three majors for 25 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game Rapid City had been spending in the box. Rapid City forced Denver goalie Travis Bosch to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Rapid City's defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 13 shots between them.

Rapid City additionally got points from Konrad Reeder, who also registered one goal and one assist. Rapid City also got a goal from Justin Sawyer as well. In addition, Rapid City received assists from Sean Erickson, who had one and Jesse Schultz and Brett Kostolansky, who contributed two a piece.

The Cutthroats were often in penalty trouble, totaling four minors and three majors for 23 minutes in penalty time. Denver surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The Cutthroats' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Rapid City power plays. Denver could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Cutthroats were led by Garrett Bembridge, who scored the team's only goal. Bembridge scored on the power play 29 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Rapid City. Steve Kaunisto provided the assist.

Bosch recorded 27 saves for Denver. The Cutthroats registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
