Wichita vanquishes Quad City in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)i-wireless Center Fri, Jan 10, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Matt Summers netted the deciding goal for the Wichita Thunder in the shootout as Thunder prevailed over the Quad City Mallards, 3-2 (2-1 SO). The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams. Quad City's shootout goal was scored by Gabriel Levesque. Wichita's other shootout goal was scored by Matt Robinson.The Thunder saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Wichita made the score 2-0 on a goal by Dustin Donaghy at 12:56 in the second period. The Mallards evened things up at 2-2 on a goal by Gergo Nagy at 10:50 in the third period. The Thunder's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Quad City power plays. With 31 shots on target during the contest, Wichita exceeded the 26.0 shots it averages per game this year. Wichita also got a goal from RG Flath as well. More assists for Wichita came via Tomas Klempa and Jared Walker, who each chipped in one. Quad City kept the Thunder's goalie busy throughout the game, and David Brown made 32 saves on 34 shots. Mike Hellyer also scored for Quad City. In addition, Quad City received assists from Tyler Yaworski, Jeff Lee, Matt Boyd, and Nick Grasso, who contributed one a piece. Wichita totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Thomas Heemskerk made 28 saves for the Mallards on 30 shots. Quad City ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
