Quad City squeaks by Brampton, 3-2

Powerade Centre    Mon, Dec 30, 2013

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Quad City Mallards escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Brampton Beast.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Mike Stinziani's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

Stinziani had a great game for Quad City, netting two goals.

The Mallards forced Brampton goalie Kristofer Westblom to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Matt Boyd also scored for Quad City. More assists for Quad City came via Nicolas Rioux, Mike Hellyer, Gergo Nagy, and Jim McKenzie, who each chipped in one.

The Beast stifled Quad City's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. With 33 shots on target during the contest, Brampton exceeded the 21.3 shots it averages per game this year.

The Beast were led by Josh McQuade, who had one goal and one assist. McQuade scored on the power play 2:09 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Brampton had gained a power play chance when Matt Duffy was whistled for tripping. Rob Collins provided the assist. Brampton also got a goal from Andrew Fournier as well. In addition, Brampton received assists from Jason Pitton and Jamie VanderVeeken, who contributed one a piece.

The Mallards' Thomas Heemskerk stopped 31 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Quad City incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Westblom rejected 30 shots on goal for the Beast. Brampton incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
