Darren McMillan gave the Quad City Mallards a 3-2 (OT) victory over the Brampton Beast when he scored 36 seconds into the extra period.

Quad City overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Mallards fell behind 2-0 after a goal by Brampton's Rob Collins at 11:46 in the second period. Quad City tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Gabriel Levesque at 9:01 in the third period.

The Mallards were sparked by McMillan, who had one goal.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:22 into the first period. Three fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The Quad City penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game the Mallards had been spending in the box. Quad City put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Beast to score on any of their three power plays. By firing 43 shots on goal, the Mallards exceeded the 32.4 shots they average per game this year.

Jim McKenzie also scored for Quad City. Other players who recorded assists for Quad City were Tyler Yaworski, Michael Monfredo, Nicolas Rioux, Thomas Frazee, Gergo Nagy, and Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel, who contributed one a piece.

Brampton racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and two majors for 50 minutes in penalty time. The Beast had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game. Brampton's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Quad City power plays. The Beast's offense was helped by the efforts of their defensemen, who managed to put 13 shots on net during the game. Brampton put 31 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23.9 it averages per game.

Brampton also got a goal from Jason Pitton as well. In addition, Brampton received assists from Andrew Fournier, Josh McQuade, Scotty Howes, and Calin Wild, who each chipped in one.

Ty Rimmer rejected 29 shots on goal for Quad City. The Mallards ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jordan Lane was ejected from the game. The Beast's Kristofer Westblom stopped 40 shots out of the 43 that he faced. For Brampton, Tylor Michel was ejected from the game.
