Allen beats Tulsa 7-4 as Ludwig gets hat trick

A hat trick by Tyler Ludwig was the highlight in Americans' 7-4 win against the Tulsa Oilers.

Ludwig's first goal came 9:40 into the third period. He then added goals at 10:50 into the third and at 18:49 into the third.

The Allen Americans racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and one major for 49 minutes in penalty time. Allen surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. The Americans surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Allen has scored at the pace of 3.6 goals per game during the current campaign. The Americans' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals. By firing 48 shots on goal, Allen exceeded the 28.4 shots it averages per game this year.

Allen also got points from Brian McMillin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Spencer Asuchak, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Allen included Jamie Schaafsma and Jonathan Lessard, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Allen were Alex Lavoie, who had three, Phil Fox, Kale Kerbashian, and Trevor Hendrikx, who contributed one a piece, and Gregor Hanson and Trevor Ludwig, who each chipped in two.

Tulsa forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. The Oilers had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Tulsa was led by Ben Gordon, who tallied two goals and one assist. Gordon scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 1:49 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Allen. The Oilers had gotten the advantage when the Americans' Ludwig was sent off for cross checking. Todd Robinson provided the assist. Gordon's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 3:39 left in the second period. Ryan Barlock assisted on the tally. Tulsa also had goals scored by Kyle Bochek and Michel Beausoleil, who scored one goal each. More assists for Tulsa came via Macaulay Macaulay and Ryan Menei, who contributed one a piece.

Mark Guggenberger recorded 20 saves for Allen. The Americans registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. For Allen, Garrett Klotz was ejected from the game. Tulsa's Shane Madolora stopped 41 shots out of the 47 that he faced. The Oilers registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Tulsa ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nathan Lutz was ejected from the game.
