Allen rides Guggenberger to victory over St. Charles, 5-1

The Allen Americans relied on the sparkling performance of Mark Guggenberger in net to grab a 5-1 win against the St. Charles Chill.

St. Charles' power play was ineffective against Allen's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Americans were paced by Trevor Ludwig, who racked up one goal. Ludwig scored 2:14 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Allen. John Snowden picked up the assist.

Allen was often in penalty trouble, as it ended with eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The Americans got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Allen's offense was clicking better than usual and put 35 shots on goal during the game, better than the 29.1 shots per game it averages.

Allen additionally got points from Mike Berube, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Jamie Schaafsma, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Gregor Hanson also scored for Allen. More assists for Allen came via Tyler Ludwig, Alex Lavoie, Ross Rouleau, and Jonathan Lessard, who each chipped in one.

The Chill excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. St. Charles put 30 shots on net during the contest, more than the 18.8 it averages per game.

The Chill were led by Steve Anthony, who scored the team's only goal. Anthony scored on the power play 1:19 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Allen. Dan Weiss assisted on the tally.

Mark Guggenberger made 29 saves for the Americans on 30 shots. St. Charles' Robert Moss stopped 30 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Chill ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
