Missouri's Castonguay deadly on offense in 5-1 win against Arizona

Eric Castonguay had two goals to lead the Missouri Mavericks to a 5-1 victory over the Arizona Sundogs.

Castonguay's tallies came on the power play at 17:54 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Missouri and 19:41 into the second to make the score 3-1 Missouri.

Arizona was stymied by Missouri netminder Shane Owen, who stopped 26 shots during the victory. The solid play of Owen will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.43.

The Mavericks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Sundogs to score on any of their three power plays. Missouri's offense was clicking better than usual and put 33 shots on goal during the game, better than the 29.4 shots per game it averages.

Missouri additionally got points from John-Scott Dickson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Missouri included Anders Franzon and Rob Kleebaum, who each put in one. In addition, Missouri received assists from Mike Ramsay, who had two, Sebastien Thinel, who had four, and Evan Vossen and Andrew Courtney, who each chipped in one.

By firing 27 shots on goal, Arizona exceeded the 22.2 shots it averages per game this year.

The Sundogs were led by Kevin Baker, who scored the team's only goal. Baker scored 2:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Arizona. Paul McIlveen provided the assist.

The Mavericks totaled 36 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Chris Rawlings made 28 saves for Arizona on 33 shots. The Sundogs ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
