Wichita uses shootout to best Missouri, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

RG Flath scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Wichita Thunder picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (2-1 SO) win over the Missouri Mavericks.

The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams. Missouri got a shootout goal from Sebastien Thinel. In addition to the clincher, Wichita got a shootout goal from Matt Robinson.

The Thunder came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Wichita fell behind 2-0 after a goal by the Mavericks' Rob Kleebaum at 14:12 in the first period. The Thunder knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Jon Booras at 17:42 in the first period.

Booras was all over the ice for Wichita, as he grabbed two goals in the win.

The Thunder's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Missouri power plays. By firing 34 shots on goal, Wichita exceeded the 24.1 shots it averages per game this year.

Other players who recorded assists for Wichita were Jesse Dudas, who had one and Andrew Martens, who had two.

Missouri relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Eric Castonguay, Mike Ramsay and Dave Pszenyczny took 15 of the team's 28 shots.

Missouri also got points from Castonguay, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Missouri received assists from Thinel, who had one.

Taylor Nelson recorded 26 saves for the Thunder. Wichita incurred seven minutes in penalty time with three minors. Joe Howe made 31 saves for the Mavericks on 33 shots. Missouri incurred five minutes in penalty time with two minors.
