Brampton squeaks by Denver, 4-2

The Brampton Beast gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Denver Cutthroats.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Jason Pitton's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Rob Collins had a great game for Brampton, netting two goals. Collins scored on the power play at 9:38 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Brampton and again while 17:15 into the third to make the score 4-2 Brampton.

Denver's power play was ineffective against the Beast's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Brampton excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Beast's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Brampton finished with 21 penalty minutes. By firing 32 shots on goal, the Beast exceeded the 25.1 shots they average per game this year.

Brampton additionally got points from Tylor Michel, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Brampton came via Michael MacIsaac, Josh McQuade, and Calin Wild, who contributed one a piece and Matt Caruana and Jamie VanderVeeken, who each chipped in two.

Brampton was unable to stop the Cutthroats from sending pucks towards the net, and Denver eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

The Cutthroats were helped by Garrett Bembridge, who finished with one goal and one assist. Bembridge scored 16:45 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Michael Schumacher assisted on the tally. Denver also got points from Schumacher, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Denver received assists from Lee Moffie and Troy Schwab, who contributed one a piece.

Grant Rollheiser rejected 33 shots on goal for the Beast. Brampton registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Kieran Millan recorded 28 saves for Denver. The Cutthroats ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major.
