Arizona outlasts St. Charles, 3-2

The game between the Arizona Sundogs and the St. Charles Chill was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Arizona emerged with a 3-2 win.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Jason Morgan's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

The Sundogs' penalty kill excelled, as Arizona gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

The Sundogs were paced by Morgan, who registered one goal. Morgan scored on the power play 14:29 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Arizona. Arizona earned a power play opportunity when Greg Brown was put in the box for high sticking. Paul McIlveen picked up the assist.

The Sundogs average 22.7 shots on goal per game, but only sent 17 pucks on net against St. Charles.

Arizona also got points from McIlveen, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Arizona also got a goal from Dion Campbell as well. In addition, Arizona received assists from Bryan Cameron and Alex Tuckerman, who each chipped in one.

With 24 shots on target during the contest, the Chill exceeded the 21.8 shots they average per game this year. The defense for St. Charles played an important role offensively, racking up 11 shots on goal.

The Chill were helped by Kyle OKane, who tallied one goal. OKane scored 6:18 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Tony DeHart assisted on the tally. Phil Buschbacher also scored for St. Charles. Other players who recorded assists for St. Charles were Justin Levac and Ryan Berard, who contributed one a piece.

Andrew Engelage rejected 22 shots on goal for Arizona. The Sundogs totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Robert Moss made 14 saves for St. Charles on 17 shots. The Chill ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major.
