Rapid City survived a determined comeback attempt by the Arizona Sundogs on the way to a 6-5 win. A goal by Justin Sawyer put Rapid City up 5-0 in the second period, but Arizona pulled to within one on Jordan Clendenning's tally 18:40 into the third period. The Rapid City penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and two majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. Rapid City had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. Rapid City kept the Sundogs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brad Fogal made 30 saves on 36 shots. Rapid City bested its season scoring average. Rapid City was helped by Eric Giosa, who racked up one goal and two assists. Giosa scored 51 seconds into the third period to make the score 6-2 Rapid City. Matthew Larke provided the assist. Rapid City also got points from Jesse Schultz, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Jared Brown, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Tristin Llewellyn, who also had one goal and one assist. Winston Day Chief also scored for Rapid City. In addition, Rapid City received assists from Ryan Palmer, who had one and Konrad Reeder, who had three. The Sundogs found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Arizona averages 2.3 goals per game. The Sundogs' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Arizona finished with 26 penalty minutes. With 31 shots on target during the contest, the Sundogs exceeded the 24.0 shots they average per game this year. Arizona additionally got points from Paul McIlveen, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Arizona also got a goal from Dion Campbell as well. More assists for Arizona came via Bryan Cameron, Jason Morgan, and Sebastien Geoffrion, who each chipped in one and Jeff Buvinow and Justin Pender, who contributed two a piece. Tim Boron recorded 26 saves for Rapid City. Rapid City registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Arizona registered three goals on seven power play opportunities.
