Brampton squeaks by Quad City, 4-3i-wireless Center Sat, Nov 02, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Brampton Beast gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Quad City Mallards. Brampton gained the winning advantage on a goal by Andrew Fournier 12:58 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Fournier had a great game for the Beast, netting two goals. Brampton pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 23 penalty minutes. Brampton also got points from Michael MacIsaac, who also had one goal and one assist. Brett Smith also scored for Brampton. Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Rob Collins, who had two and Tyler Matheson, Jeff Martens, Josh McQuade, and Jamie VanderVeeken, who contributed one a piece. Quad City kept the Beast's goalie busy throughout the game, and Kristofer Westblom made 29 saves on 32 shots. The Mallards' defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 13 shots between them. Quad City was helped by Gergo Nagy, who finished with one goal. Nagy scored on the power play 11:46 into the third period to make the score 3-3. The Mallards had gotten the advantage when Brampton's Erik Spady was sent off for cross checking. Vladimir Nikiforov assisted on the tally. Quad City also got a goal from Jeff Lee as well. More assists for Quad City came via Nicolas Rioux, who had two and Michael Monfredo and Thomas Frazee, who each chipped in one. The Beast registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Ty Rimmer made 22 saves for Quad City on 26 shots. The Mallards totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-8 on the power play.
