Quad City rolls over St. Charles, 6-1

The Quad City Mallards were firing on all cylinders against the St. Charles Chill, and when the final buzzer sounded Mallards emerged with a 6-1 win.

Quad City was led by goalie Thomas Heemskerk, who finished with 27 saves while allowing one goal. Heemskerk certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.57 entering the contest.

St. Charles' 17 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Chill let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:48 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The the Mallards penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and three majors for 39 minutes in penalty time. Quad City had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Mallards kept St. Charles' goalie busy throughout the game, and Mathieu Corbiel made 28 saves on 34 shots. Quad City's defensemen bolstered the Mallards' offensive attack, as they bombarded Corbiel with 15 shots.

Quad City was helped by Gergo Nagy, who tallied one goal. Nagy scored on the power play 5:41 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Quad City. A tripping penalty on Tony DeHart had put the Mallards on the power play. Matt Duffy picked up the assist. Quad City additionally got points from Nicolas Rioux, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Vladimir Nikiforov, who also had one goal and one assist, and Gabriel Levesque, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Jeff Lee also scored for Quad City. More assists for Quad City came via Mike Stinziani, who had two, Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel, who had three, and Michael Monfredo, Thomas Frazee, and Jim McKenzie, who contributed one a piece.

The Chill racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 14 minors and three majors for 63 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 26.0 minutes per game St. Charles had been spending in the box.

The Chill were led by Chad Costello, who scored the team's only goal. Costello scored on the power play 9:52 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Quad City. St. Charles had gotten the advantage when Quad City's Lee was sent off for cross checking. Jordan Fox assisted on the tally.

For the Mallards, Tyler Yaworski was ejected from the game. The Chill registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. St. Charles ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Greg Brown was ejected from the game.
