Denver beats Brampton 7-3 as Bembridge gets hat trick

A hat trick by Garrett Bembridge was the highlight in Cutthroats' 7-3 win against the Brampton Beast.

Bembridge got on the scoresheet 17:02 into the first period. He then added goals at 16:03 into the second and at 18:21 into the second.

Brampton trailed by one after the first period, but the Denver Cutthroats went into the second intermission with a 6-2 lead and never looked back.

Denver excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Cutthroats outdid their season average for goals scored. Denver averages 3.7 goals per game. The 38 shots that the Cutthroats put on net surpassed Denver's average of 31.8 shots per game this season.

Denver also got points from Troy Schwab, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Denver also got a goal from Vincent Arseneau as well. In addition, Denver received assists from Steve Kaunisto, who had three, Sean Zimmerman, TJ Fox, Matt Glasser, Michael Trebish, and Aaron MacKenzie, who each chipped in one, and Jean-Philipp Chabot and A.J. Gale, who contributed two a piece.

The Beast were often in penalty trouble, as it ended with six minors and two majors for 22 minutes in penalty time.

Brampton was led by Brett Smith, who had two goals. Smith scored the first of his two goals short handed at 17:23 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Denver. A slashing call on Michael MacIsaac put the Beast on the penalty kill. Smith's next tally short handed made the score 7-3 Denver with 9:35 left in the third period. Rob Collins provided the assist. Josh McQuade also scored for Brampton. Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Tyler Butler, Erik Spady, and Calin Wild, who each chipped in one.

Kent Patterson rejected 22 shots on goal for the Cutthroats. Denver totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 1-for-6 on the power play. Kristofer Westblom took the loss and made 22 saves before being replaced by Grant Rollheiser who made nine saves.
